SENATOR YUSUF DATTI BABA AHMED BIOGRAPHY
Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed is a prominent figure in Nigerian politics and economics. He established Baze University in Abuja and Baba-Ahmed University in Kano and served as a senator (Awaiting License). He established and currently serves as the Pro-chancellor of Baze University in Abuja, the location of the Baze University Hospital, the largest private hospital in Africa.

Baba-Ahmed attended the University of Maiduguri in Borno State for his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Economics. Prior to his entry into politics, he held a job in the security printing and minting industry in Lagos.
After completing his doctoral coursework at the University of Westminster in 2006, he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and became eligible for federal representation simultaneously.

When Olusegun Obasanjo was president, he was one of the lawmakers who fought against allowing Obasanjo to compete for a third term in office.
In May of 2006, he stated that he would not be reelection unless action was taken to investigate suspicions that members had been bribed to support the constitutional amendments required for a third-term administration. These modifications were necessary for a third-term presidency.
In 2007, he filed a lawsuit against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) due to the commission’s handling of previous elections. He was well-known for his outspokenness against corrupt practices.

Baba-Ahmed was the university’s founder and Pro-Chancellor when it opened its doors in April 2011 in Abuja, in the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria. Baze University is an independent institution of higher education.
He used his experiences studying outside of Nigeria as a yardstick to claim that the educational system in Nigeria was “appalling,” and he stated that this motivated him to establish Baze University.
WON THE 2011 SENATORIAL ELECTION AGAINST AHMED MAKARFI
During the elections that took place in April 2011, Baba-Ahmed received 366,398 votes to win the position of Senator for Kaduna North. The incumbent senator from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ahmed Makarfi, received 365,043 votes, making him the runner-up in the race.
